Stenhousemuir 1-2 East Kilbride FC
A Sean Winter brace ensured that EK finished Betfred Cup section G on a high, defeating Stenhousemuir at Ochilview.
An even first half saw little in the way of goal-mouth action, with Adam Strachan looking most dangerous for EK, but the interval arrived with the game goal-less.
It took Billy Stark's men just two minutes after the break to claim the lead, after a sweeping counter move on the left saw BJ Coll find Sean Winter with a pinpoint cross, and the EK front man's expertly placed header clipped on the cross-bar on its way into the top of the net.
The goal looked to have settled Kilby who began to control the game, but this was short-lived, when Stenny hit back on 55 minutes, Jamie Longworth finding the bottom corner of the EK net from 18-yards after slack Kilby play.
The home side then began to enjoy the ascendancy, before Winter again demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess. A fine Kevin McCann cross was brilliantly knocked down by the head of Craig Howie, and Sean produced an acrobatic overhead volley low into the net to make it 2-1.
Despite a few late scares, EK held firm to claim another memorable victory and round off a highly credible first Betfred Cup campaign.
Billy Stark's men now look forward to the start of the Lowland League season, as the defending champions seek to go one better and gain promotion to the SPFL.
