U-20 League Cup Section B
Spartans - 1
East Kilbride FC - 1
East Kilbride FC produced a dominant second half perforance to recover from a goal behind to claim a point and remain top of the U-20 Lowland League Cup Section B.
Trailing 1-0 at half-time, 16-year old substiture Kieran McGuire (pictured) came off the bench to equalise for Kilby.
A dominant start for EK saw Michael Jones strike the post early on, as Kilby enjoyed a strong opening 30 minutes.
But some slack play before half-time saw Spartans take the lead and grab the initiative, with Kilby glad to hear the half-time whistle.
A much more focussed EK came out for the second half and began to dominate, with Michael Jones coming close on 50 minutes, but the Kilby top scorer shot just wide.
Now well in control, Jones again tested the home keeper with a powerful volley which was beaten away, and Kieran McGuire reacted first, but his header from the rebound flew just over.
Kilby were not to be denied and deservedly equalised on 70 minutes. Again Michael Jones got in behind, and when his strike was saved, young McGuire again reacted first to fire home to make the score 1-1.
EK pushed hard for a winner, with Anthony McGuigan outstanding in midfield, and McGuire almost added a second after fine set-up play from McGuigan, but the striker's shot was twice saved.
With Kilby pushing for a winner, keeper Craig Melrose had to react to produce a great save late in the game, and full-time arrived with honours even.
Another positive for EK was the debut of another 16-year old, Stephen Docherty, who started the match before making way for McGuire.
