East Kilbride saw off a tough test from Gala Fairydean Rovers at K-Park to run out 3-1 winners and retain top spot in the Lowland League on Saturday.
A Martin McBride (pictured) double and a goal from Sean Winter put Kilby in a strong position before Jack Hay gave Gala late hope.
Both sides started well, but it was EK who took the lead after 17 minutes, when Sean Winter, returning from suspension, rose highest to head home a BJ Coll delivery, to continue a run of scoring which has saw him score in every match he has played in this season.
Despite looking dangerous, Gala could not find much to test Matt McGinley with during the first half, and Kilby extended the lead five minutes before the break.
This time Winter turned provider, setting up Martin McBride with a cut back, and the EK midfielder found the corner to make it 2-0 at the break.
The second half started with Kilby well on top, with Winter in excellent form on the right and Joao Victoria causing problems for Gala, and it was that combination who produced a fine third goal on the hour.
Winter again attacked down the right, and another cut-back found McBride, who appeared to mis-hit a shot that wrong-footed Wright in Gala goal, and it was 3-0.
Kilby subs Gavin Millar and Robbie Winter both came close to making it four, before Gala deservedly found the net 10 minutes from the end, when Jack Hay struck a fine shot past McGinley from 20-yards.
McGinley then had a fine save from a Hay header just before the end as Gala took heart from the goal, but Martin Lauchlan's men ground out the win, to make it five wins in a row in the Lowland League.
Next week sees two massive games, with a trip to Gretna 2008 on Wednesday night, and the visit to K-Park by East Stirling next Saturday.
